The Moroccan Coalition for Climate Justice (MCCJ) is organising an African and International Conference pertaining to “COP22, Issues and Challenges” at the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy at Hassan II University of Casablanca on the 23rd and 24th of September 2016.
The MCCJ is organizing this conference as part of the implementation of its action plan, both in preparation for COP22, which will be held in Marrakech from the 7th to the18th of November 2016, and beyond. This conference will engage over 160 participants, including representatives from civil society networks and associations, unions, social movements, researchers and experts. 90 international guests from 39 countries in Africa, the Maghreb/Machrek, the Americas, Europe and Asia.
The work of this conference will focus on four fundamental strategic areas:
- COP22: What are possible and complimentary responses from civil society to pending questions identified in the Paris Accords? What communal actions should civil society take in attempts to influence negotiations?
- Towards a COP AFRICA for civil society: How to make Africa a priority within the debates and decision making of states at COP22?
- Citizen movements: How to leverage COP22 in order to increase the visibility of solutions proposed by associations, unions and social movements in collaboration with experts and universities and strengthen ties between differing struggles, all the while ensuring that the fight for climate justice is socially anchored.
- Civil society organization and participation at COP22: How to balance official, restricted spaces and areas open to public and civil society actors during COP22? How to make civil society voices heard by governments and officials in the blue zone and on what priorities?
The interventions and debates that take place during the sessions, plenaries and workshops, will lead to the production of strategic documents within the 4 fundamental areas of the program and will provide an outline of key steps required before, during and after COP22.
Representatives of print, electronic and audiovisual media, accredited Moroccan press agencies and diplomatic press officers are invited to cover this event.
