The Aswatona Fund for the development of the media is a regional funding initiative and provides for the strengthening of the independent media in the countries of the Maghreb and the Mashreq. Our goal is to promote pluralism in the media, the expression of public opinion and the participation of civil society in the media as well as strengthen, through community associative media, the participation of women, young people, rural and remote communities and marginalized groups.
Organizations supported by the Aswatona Fund will be local independent media and organizations of civil society, as well as key stakeholders in the development of the sector of the community associative media, including professional associations, universities and training institutions. The Fund is not open to individual candidates. Organizations that may submit their applications for support from the Fund must be legally registered, non-profit, not affiliated with any political party or religious organization, and by working primarily in one or more of the following countries: Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Syria or the Tunisia.
The Aswatona Fund for the development of the media will offer will support the following actions:
Action 1 the exchange of experiences and good practices
Action 2 the development of hearing and sustainability
Action 3 social or cultural Media Productions
Action 4 Promotion of media political dialogue
Action 5 strengthening networking and solidarity
The Aswatona Fund for the development of the media is a partnership project between Community Media Solutions (United Kingdom), Community Media Network (Jordan), Andalus Institute for Tolerance and Anti-violence Studies (Egypt), Holy Land Trust (Palestine), Forum alternative of Morocco (Morocco) and the Union Tunisien des Radios Libres (Tunisia), in conjunction with the World Association of community radio broadcasters (AMARC). This project is funded in part by the European Union.
This project is part of the programme 'Media and Culture for development in the southern Mediterranean' which means in particular strengthening the role of the media and culture as vectors of democratization and economic and social development in the South of the Mediterranean societies.
