From 12th to 17th July 2012 associative actors, social movements, trade unions, etc. from all around the world, met in Monastir (Tunisia) to participate in the Preparatory Assembly of the next World Social Forum to be held in Tunis in March 2013.
For one week, nearly 3,000 people gathered in the small coastal town to debate and discuss the following topics: “migration”, “social movements in Tunisia,” “democracy, citizenship and human rights”, “economic and social rights facing neoliberal globalization and privatization”, “diversity, cultural rights, freedom of expression and access to technology”, “women’s rights”, “economic, debt and free trade agreements”, “protection of the environment”, “youth and social struggle”, etc.
The preparatory assembly started with the African Social Forum on 11th and 12th July. On July 13th, more than a dozen workshops were held. On July 14th the Maghreban Assembly held an open session. Finally, on 14th, 15th and 16th July the International Council of the World Social Forum held an open meeting as well as expanded meetings of commissions “communications and mobilization” and “methodology” and “resources”. Social movements from all around the world (the Occupy WallStreet, the indignados from Europe (Spain, Croatia, Hungaria, Germany…), the “Y en a marre” from Senegal etc.) also held several meetings and presented and discussed about the different struggles they lead.
